Linked to their forthcoming adventures on the high seas, Year 6 visited Teign Heritage Centre to learn about the importance of our town as a fishing port and harbour.
The children were delighted to be shown historical photographs and drawings showing how the town developed over time and its importance as a trading port and as a place to visit.
They were lucky enough learn more about the Jolie Brise and to meet with a local girl who has been selected to be part of its crew as it races in April. Pupils were entertained with knot tying, dressing up, food tasting, sea shanties and a tour of the exhibition space with a quiz to help them discover more about the town they live in for themselves. Everyone had a wonderful time and left feeling even more enthusiastic about the proposed “trip of a lifetime” ahead of them in June.
Thanks to everyone at the Teign Heritage Centre for all their enthusiasm and knowledge.
