The children approached the new and tough course at Haldon Forest with a mixture of trepidation and excitement, all determined to do well. They were led around the course by a ‘hare’ in the form of a very experienced extreme marathon runner so for him it was barely a warm up!
Oliver Rowbury and Amber Ridgway both gave stunning performances storming home in first place. Both pupils have competed really well since YR3 and have come close before but this is truly commendable.
There was a notable debut performance from Ben Hindly and Harry Williams also pushed hard to come in the top twenty. Mabel Brett on her debut also showed real promise.
In the Year 5/6 age group many of our runners improved their placings from last time but the most determined and passionate performance was from Brendan Flynn who reached the finish line with a great sprint and more than twenty places up on his previous best.
It’s wonderful that our pupils embrace this event with such enthusiasm and are inspired about Athletics and keeping fit in general. A fantastic team effort!
